When you last did the time warp, it was a Rocky road.
Take a smoother trip back in time with the decidedly mid-century Mid City Caffe.
The new coffee shop, which opens tomorrow, is impeccably decorated in a former auto body garage. Windows have original stenciled signs advertising shocks and struts, while the new couches have been upholstered in dark velvet to resemble vintage car interiors.
Order a cup of Counter Culture coffee brewed by pour-over or French press. Treats from breakfast through dessert include brioche with cream cheese or Nutella, coffee cake, and lemon chiffon cake. Crumpets with lemon curd will be available down the line.
The shop offers newfangled convenience like Wi-Fi, so you can work or hang and make new friends.
Just what the mid-Atlantic needs.
Mid City Caffe, 1626 14th Street NW, between Corcoran and R Streets, 2nd floor (202-234-1515 or midcitycaffe.com).
