Life’s a beach.
New York Avenue Beach Bar
What: The new bar one block from the convention center is a shore thing, complete with 70 tons of sand trucked in from Maryland and sandwiches from SunDeVich.
Why: Check your shoes at the door and let the beach traffic inch by while you enjoy a frozen daiquiri from maverick cocktailer Tom Brown (The Passenger) on an Adirondack chair or hammock.
When: Tues.-Thurs., 4 p.m.-2 a.m.; Fri. & Sat., noon-3 a.m.; Sun., noon-midnight.
Where: 645 New York Ave. NW (202-656-9229).
What: The tony giftorium moves into considerably larger digs, which means more room to display eight new lines (clothes by Jess Brown and Issey Miyake, Wolfum home accents, baby togs from Olive Juice, and more).
Why: Snag an opening weekend party favor like the Bloom Fizz cocktail and Mercedes Salazar friendship bracelet.
When: Mon.-Sat., 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sun., noon-5 p.m.
Where: 2800 Pennsylvania Ave. NW (202-295-2829).
What: This is nacho mama’s Georgetown eatery. Jersey boy Mike Isabella serves a nightly Dia de los Muertos feast at his new taqueria, wrapping octopus, suckling pig, lobster, and wild mushrooms in fresh tortillas.
Why: Nine varieties of margaritas (eight by the glass, one as cake and ice cream) dare the animal skulls on the wall to talk.
When: Mon., Tues. & Sun., 4-10 p.m.; Wed. & Thurs., 4 p.m.-midnight; Fri. & Sat., 4 p.m.-2 a.m.
Where: 3241 M St. NW (202-625-4488).
Guinness Book of World Records Event
What: Arena Stage trumpets its summer blockbuster, The Music Man, by creating (potentially) the largest-ever trombone ensemble before the Nats take on the Braves. Expect many more than 76 trombones.
