Chances are, if something looks easy, it probably isn’t.
Such is the case for long-awaited urban tavern Bar Agricole, opening in SoMa on Monday.
Although the concept is straightforward (brasserie fare, artisanal cocktails), the execution is anything but. The partners paired up with biodynamic farms to provide ingredients for chef Brandon Jew’s dishes (tomatoes with bottarga; rolled chicken and an egg).
The drinks are classic (Rum Daisy, Armagnac Sour), but they incorporate spirits like fresh sugarcane rum and produce from the courtyard garden. Even the coffee, from a farm in Antigua, was found with help from Four Barrel.
The interior, with its warehouse ceilings, looks deceptively simple, too. But the booths were custom-built by Concreteworks, the wood panel wall is made from bourbon barrel staves, and the street scene behind the bar and glass fixtures were specially created by local artists. As to whether we’re excited to go? Well, that’s easy.
