The Little Engine That Could didn’t take no for an answer.
You might say the same for Joe Hargrave, who shuttered his Marina restaurant, Laïola, at the end of 2009 — but refused to give up on the space by opening Tacolicious there tonight.
The stand at the Thursday Ferry Building farmers market gets its own made-over interior with dusty teal walls, cedar tables, and kick-ass artwork (a massive illustrated photo of a Mexican wrestler, sketches by local artist Paul Madonna).
The signature shot-and-a-beer braised chicken and carnitas tacos can be ordered solo or in any combo of four or ten. Ceviches and salads (try the Marina Girl chopped salad) round out the shareable menu.
Naturally, a large tequila list is in the works, but big groups might want to share some chupitos — little sampler shots of any of the restaurant’s cocktails.
At least, that’s what we’d choo-choo choose.
