Fair Leather Friend

remade's alameda clutch!

In the world of recycled fashion, it’s that essential step of making it work that designers often forget about. (Candy wrappers do not make couture clutches, people.)

So when we heard Shannon South was making handbags out of leather scraps, we were worried. But one glimpse at the finished product, and we knew this designer was in.

The line, aptly named reMade USA, is handcrafted in Potrero Hill out of old jackets (one of your own if you like), automotive upholstery, and furniture leftovers. Then it’s lined with vintage scarves. The results are sleek and simple with character (each is obviously unique).

Standouts include Ashbury, a big carryall with a diagonal front zipper, and Powell, a hobo with neat front pockets.

We have just two words for South: Carry on.
