According to the Chinese calendar, the year of the ox is upon us.
We say bull (as in shit).
It should be the year of the dog, in honor of Heaven’s Dog and Noodle Shop, the new dual-concept SOMA eatery that Charles Phan (Mr. Slanted Door) is opening today.
On one side, there’s lunch-only, takeout-peddling Noodle Shop with outdoor seating. On the other, swanky lounge Heaven’s Dog has mandarin orange love seats and a cypress bar, named for a bad (if funny) translation.
But there’s no misinterpreting the Phan favorites on the menu: Shanghai dumplings, braised pork belly, roast duck on clamshell buns, and noodle bowls. Wash it down with cocktails by great local mixers like Erik Adkins.
There’s a private dining room for keeping things, well, private.
But no monkey business please.
Heaven’s Dog and Noodle Shop, 1148 Mission Street, between 7th and 8th Streets (415-863-6008).
