Buying a bauble is one thing, but the sense of accomplishment that comes from creating your own just can’t be bead.
Upgrade your jewelry-making skills from preschool level to Pamela Love would approve with new classes at Crown Nine, the Oakland flagship store for designer Kate Ellen.
Ideal for the DIY shy, Crown Nine’s method is both intimate (seven students max) and nonintimidating (think hands-on demos with inexpensive tools).
Up first: Wax Carving, during which you’ll turn a favorite nature-inspired object (leaf, coral, twig) into a pendant or stud earrings. Taught by Ellen herself and Crown Nine partner/Bay Area jeweler Sarah Swell, the course gives you tools and resources to continue the craft once it’s done.
Nicely within your clasp.
Classes take place at Crown Nine, 461a 9th Street, at Broadway Street (510-507-0789), $60-$90. For a complete schedule, go to crown-nine.com.
