Silver Lake Crime Blotter
Burglary: On August 5, at 11 p.m., police were called to the domicile of a red-haired leprechaun of indiscriminate age. Upon arrival, the victim informed police three of his lucky charms — a heart, a star, and a moon — had been stolen.
The leprechaun accused local artist and illustrator Wendy Polish of the theft. Polish, he explained, recently started making silk-screen prints of symbols that bore a strong resemblance to the missing amulets.
He spotted the moon drenched in neon pink on Polish’s greeting cards; the star turned up on flour sack tea towels. Linen throw pillows emblazoned with a red heart only further raised his suspicions.
The police retained Polish for questioning and, after ordering a few of her custom tablecloths, summarily dismissed her as a suspect.
The leprechaun, they concluded, was a cereal liar.
