But Kim Alter is our most persuasive argument yet: She (wo)mans the helm at Haven, opening tomorrow in Jack London Square.
The pint-size powerhouse honed her chops tackling whole beasts at Plate Shop and continues the practice across the other bridge. Make your next mind-blowing meal Atler’s roasted chicken with farro or family-style clams. Pastry chef Matt Tinder (The Restaurant at Meadowood) keeps the bar high with shareable desserts, like profiteroles with salted almond and burned orange caramel.
Not to be outdone, the decor impresses: Floor-to-ceiling windows pour light onto a wraparound walnut bar, Shaker-style tables and chairs, and brushed metal pillars; exposed brick flanks the handsome open kitchen. Prime time bar seats observe the action, but two leather booths overlooking the water rival as the house’s top spots.
You may never want to cross back over the Bay.
