We’ve got some juicy news.
As in, the bikes bursting from Huckleberry Bicycles. Owned by three friends-slash-industry-vets, the new two-wheeler shop is now open in SoMa.
Zack Stender, Jonas Jackel, and Brian Smith launched their business from an abandoned newspaper kiosk, offering free maintenance and minor repairs to morning commuters. Despite the new digs, they continue to do just that (weekdays from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., weather willing).
Besides earning karma points, the trio specializes in urban velos (peddling local darling Public Bikes), with a sampling of road and touring bikes. Racks of bipedal beauties grace the warm, wooded space with specialized clothing, accessories, and the occasional succulent. It doesn’t hurt that one of three strapping young men will tune your wheels and offer tips without the sales pitch or overwhelming jargon.
In other words, they’ll be your huckleberry.
Huckleberry Bicycles, 1073 Market Street, at 7th Street (415-484-6575 or huckleberrybicycles.com).
