Organic. Fair trade. Sustainable. Despite the words emblazoned on labels, designers have been known to stretch the truth.
Here to lend some cred to the eco fashion movement (impostors be damned): Wildlife Works’ Kukhanga Collection.
The flattering line of tops, scarves, sweaters, and jackets is made from certified-organic, fair trade cotton in an eco factory in the African Bush by local Kenyans. Each piece is cut and screen-printed with abstract elements inspired by the elaborately patterned khangas worn by East African women.
What’s more, the company offsets its carbon emissions throughout the entire process through REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation), which aids local wildlife preservation.
DIY with the website’s handy carbon calculator and offset your own footprint.
Just no fudging the numbers.
Available online at wildlifeworks.com, $28-$68.
