We like to think we’re mature enough to resist an obvious double entendre when it presents itself.
But when talking about the new cookbook from the guys behind New York’s popular Meatball Shop restaurants, we seized the opportunity by the balls. The meatballs, to be exact.
For today’s videos, we asked chefs Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow to make three simple recipes from The Meatball Shop Cookbook, all perfect for holiday feasting: Gobble Gobble turkey meatballs (above), kabocha squash salad, and ginger cookies.
They also demo’ed a great-for-wintry-nights port toddy that’s not in the book — we just felt like drinking during the shoot. A ballsy move? Perhaps.
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire? Too dangerous. Jack Frost nipping at your nose? No, sir. We’d rather get in the holiday spirit with The Meatball Shop’s recipe for ginger cookies, as demo’ed by chef Michael Chernow.
Sometimes, on a cold winter’s night, you need something to warm you up. Sometimes, on that same night, you’re stuck at a holiday dinner next to your aunt who asks fourteen times why you aren’t married. Here’s a drink from chef Michael Chernow to help you get through.
Thanks to this recipe, we’re starting a campaign to make kabocha the new acorn or butternut. It’s just as delicious, you don’t have to peel it, and it’s chef Daniel Holzman’s favorite. We think it squashes the competition (sorry, couldn’t resist).
Nothing gets us in the holiday spirit like spiked eggnog (enough down the hatch and we’ll believe in Santa again).
So, our gift to you: recipes for two simple-as-they-are-delicious nogs. Helping us out is Michael Cirino, handsome co-founder of NYC-based dinner party extraordinaires A Razor, a Shiny Knife.
The drinks are easily made in individual servings — which Cirino demos in the video — or big batches for a party. Just keep the ratios the same and your guests will be ho-ho-hoing in no time.

In this video, Michael Cirino, co-founder of NYC-based dinner partiers A Razor, a Shiny Knife, walks us through the recipe for a Green Beast (as coined by the Pernod mixologist who invented it). All it takes is a tiny bit of the green liquor, simple syrup, lime juice, and water.
Just be careful: It’s dangerously delicious.

Don’t fret. In today’s video, hair genius Adrienne Saczko of The Drawing Room New York demos a beautiful, easy updo for chin-to-shoulder-length locks. All you need is a curling iron (or hot rollers, if that’s easier), hairspray, bobby pins, and your own two hands.
Once you get the style down, feel free to tighten with more pins (or loosen with fewer) and adorn it with your own accessories.
Preferably not mistletoe.
You know what could really spoil your NYE celebration? Accidentally hitting someone in the face with the cork as you open a bottle of bubbly.

It’s the day before Thanksgiving and our brains are stuffing. And turkey, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, candied yams, honey baked ham … well, you get the point.
But we know this holiday’s not just about food but also about gratitude. So on a beautiful day last week, we walked around New York and asked people what they’ll be thankful for tomorrow. We were incredibly touched by everyone’s answers — and hope you will be, too.
