Stacks of dog-eared magazines and cluttered work stations are de riguer at most salons.
Opt for a more streamlined look at Mirror & Mantel, Katie Cooke’s tucked-away salon that’s far too charming to be kept secret.
She set out to create an atmosphere that feels like home (minimal white interior, flowery coffee mugs). Her reasoning? The more comfortable you feel, the more you’ll say — and get — what you really want.
Cooke spent more than a decade working her way up at places like Luna and Rinse before going solo. The crew consists of a few talented friends who match her skills in cut and color (stalwart brunettes may decide to change it up after a glance at Cooke’s red locks).
She takes a natural approach to cuts, letting your hair do the talking, and stocks vegan and paraben-free product lines.
After all, less is more.
