When we heard the Fairmount Art Center was opening a roomier sister spot in foot traffic-friendly South Philly, we trotted right over.
(As lovely as the tree-lined streets are in the original Art Museum District location, getting there is a bit of a schlep.)
There we found highly functional amenities — huge trough sinks that prevent bottlenecks during brush rinsing and a kitchenette where you can fix a snack or get hopped up on caffeine (BYO) before tending to your canvas — that got us jazzed about a six-week series or one-day workshop. Courses cover subjects like figure drawing, jewelry-making, and bookbinding. Budding seamstresses can learn to do alterations or knock off their favorite dresses.
Skip a trip to the supply store, since materials are provided for many of the classes.
That should put some pep in your step.
