It’s March. We’re all going a little mad.
Calm the how-is-it-still-winter beast at chef Sam Talbot’s seafood joint, Imperial No. Nine, debuting today inside the Mondrian Soho.
Reserve a table in the Steel Magnolias-styled greenhouse. You know: brick floor, avocado paint, powder blue wire chairs, and semigloss banquettes. Or wait for the giant garden swing/soon-to-be chef’s table. However, you’ve got to be a real VIP (as in Talbot’s mother) to give it a whirl.
Kick off family-style dining with roasted squash, tart apple, and Chihuahua cheese salad followed by spicy, slow-cooked octopus or Maine scallops with pickled melon over ricotta salata. Order two plates of the buttery, seared Alaskan king crab legs. They’re that good.
Every dish is sustainable and Talbot keeps close tabs on his sources (Captain Rob from Deadliest Catch, East New York Farms).
Just as fresh: the whale-size cocktail list that will tide you over ’til spring.
