Despite the thankless work of restaurant review sites (and your best efforts in the kitchen), eating in New York can be a gamble.
We say cheat, fix the bet, and slip 19 Charles Street up your sleeve. The just-launched, members-only grocery service delivers recipe-specific, organic fare to time-strapped urban foodies.
Each week select from four new recipes (like grass-fed, herb-encrusted rack of lamb with creamy Parmesan polenta and garlicky sauteed greens) and place your order by 5 p.m. Friday. The 19CS team then shops, packs (using minimal, recyclable containers), and delivers the goods with instructions on the following Monday and Wednesday.
Current vendors include the Union Square Greenmarket (meat, seafood), Murray’s Cheese, Raffetto’s (pasta), and Blue Ribbon Bakery (bread). More shops and guest chefs are in the works.
Cheaper meals exist (19CS is about $30 per serving), but these winning dinners pay out nicely.
