We never thought we’d use the words Sunset Strip and bucolic country retreat in the same sentence. But with The Eveleigh (pictured) opening tonight, it had to be done.
Set back from the buzzy boulevard, the charming restaurant and bar’s exposed brick, raw wood beams, and roaring fireplace keep things welcoming, rustic, and low-key. Sweeping southern views from the back patio garden — and smartly edited selections of beer, wine, and from-scratch cocktails like the Clipper (gin, Aperol, St. Germain, grapefruit, and soda) and the classic Sazerac (rye, absinthe, Angostura and Peychaud’s bitters) — remind of the big city life outside in case you forget.
For now, do after-work drinks or dinner (lunch starts next month). Start small with the seasonal, California market-inspired plates like butter lettuce salad with warm egg yolk and garden herbs; pot-roasted clams; or pork rillettes with zucchini, dill pickle, radish, and charred toast. Move on to hearty braised beef cheek or roasted white fish, and finish with a poached peach with brown sugar ice cream or a frozen dark chocolate sandwich for dessert. Yep, that had to be done, too.
