If you can’t follow in the footsteps of Fifties Hollywood’s beachy glamour set (Liz Taylor, Lana Turner, Elvis) and hit up the sun-drenched beaches of Mexico, you can still bask like them in your very own Acapulco chair.
The retro-futuristic lounge piece — named after the beach town popularized by those midcentury stars of the silver screen — has been reclaimed by a trio of Brooklyn design geeks, who are now making a tweaked version by hand in a Greenpoint workshop. (They share the showroom with quirky antiques boutique Le Grenier.)
The spacey, nest-like shape is oh so comfortable, despite being constructed from steel and plastic cord (take your pick of black, white, or beachy colors). Pitched toward the sun at just the right angle, it’ll transport you to the Pacific for less than a round-trip ticket ($350).
Available at Le Grenier, 19 Greenpoint Avenue, between West Street and the East River, Greenpoint (718-569-0111); online at greenpointworks.com.
