As a kid, your drawings told it like it was: Mom was a spaz, Dad was a clown, and your brother was the evilest of villains.
JeanPaul Mallozzi never outgrew truth telling in his illustrations. The Miami-based artist creates custom portraits that showcase his subjects’ true emotions by replacing perfectly sketched faces with gestural (squiggly) lines and color. Mallozzi intuits your mood while you pose and substitutes an array of hues — like red (angry) and yellow (happy) — and evolving strokes.
Sit down with the New York native at his Bakehouse Art Complex studio for a small single portrait ($50) or gather the whole family for a group design (starting at $500). Mallozzi also sells limited-edition illustrations of random people, who you are more than welcome to judge.
In case you don’t want to see your true colors.
