Once you’ve mastered one skill, it’s natural to expand.
As is the case for Patty Arango: After building a reputation as the custom cake lady, she outgrew her home kitchen and opened a brick-and-mortar shop, Not Just Cakes by Patty.
Arango makes each of her menu items (from cookies and cake pops to gourmet breads and baked empanadas) by hand daily. Dulce de leche, guava, cookies and cream, carrot, and red velvet cakes are specialties, and natural ingredients mean your banana cupcake is made with real bananas.
If you want to stay and nosh, the tasteful space, done in blush pink, white, and black, has ample seating, a kids’ corner, sandwiches, and Cuban coffee. And although Arango made the upward move, her prices did not: A mini cupcake and espresso are less than $3.
That’s a shot we’d do anytime of day.
