By our guesstimation, at least 75 percent of all canning equipment purchased during this current craze will go unused. Bypass the investment and go straight to Jen Smith. Her recently launched Full Moon Pickle of the Month Club is now in full effect.
Smith preps five jars a month for each of her subscribers, preserving whatever fruit and veg is fresh and local so you don’t have to. The $40 monthly membership fee can turn into jams and pickles, of course, but krauts and sauces make appearances, too. Along with slightly more traditional varieties like strawberry-lemon spread and dilly beans, there are experimental flavors like gingery watermelon rind, peppery harissa, and sour orange marmalade.
Choose between delivery to your doorstep (an additional $10 each drop) or retrieve your jars of goodness at a monthly pickle party hosted by Smith herself. Now just try to keep a lid on it.
For more information and to sign up, e-mail fullmoonpickles@gmail.com; $15 joining fee, $40 per month.
