You can stop holding out for a hero now. Earl’s Gourmet Grub has officially opened for business.
The artisanal take-out joint resembles an Atari version of a European, chalet-style deli with its pixilated mountain mural and eye-catching architectural ceiling. But focus on the glassed-in Carrara marble counter, where you may witness a Choppy Joe (rice-cooker ginger chicken, bean sprouts, and celery with peanut and blackstrap molasses gravy served on a sesame bun) being crafted.
Brown-bag it with inventive grinders like the Pig ’n’ Fig (prosciutto, goat blue cheese, fig hash, arugula, and aioli) or Who Dat Crab Po’boy (snow crab with Cajun mayo, melted parsley butter, and cabbage). Leaf lovers go for the smoked chile Caesar, a spiced-up twist on the classic, or start the day off with salad for breakfast (fried egg, bacon, kale, spinach, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan, and frisee tossed with lemon vinaigrette). There’s even a menu for whippersnappers.
Choose from thirteen different regional varieties of potato chips from Louisiana to Hawaii, as well as a selection of vintage sodas. Pop-chip-sandwich pairings are in the works. Any way you stack them, the results are delicious.
