According to Merriam-Webster, a mess hall is “a hall … in which mess [i.e., food] is served.”
Obviously, neither Merriam nor Webster knows about MessHall, Rob Serritella’s (Louise’s Trattoria) new Los Feliz restaurant, opening this weekend. Otherwise, the entry might read:
n. A scrum-diddly-umptious new eatery in the historic Brown Derby spot, helmed by chef Keith Silverton (Nonna of Italy) and James Beard-nominated bar director Erik Lund. Sidle up to the oyster bar, book a booth, or snag a patio table with a fire pit centerpiece for a barbecue-inflected menu that’s a little bit country, a little bit farm-fresh Americana.
Start off with corn fritters and steak tartare tacos before moving on to hearty mains like lobster mac ’n’ cheese and pork chops with cheddar grits. Get buzzed on the Amanda (vodka, serrano, pineapple) while wolfing down peach cobbler built for two.
Breakfast, brunch, and lunch menus are soon to follow.
Making this place the very definition of “yes, please.”
MessHall, 4500 Los Feliz Boulevard, at Hillhurst Avenue, Los Feliz (232-660-6377 or messhallla.com).
