An Homage to Fromage
Named for a 16th-century writer of poems and fiction,
Who harbored a serious cheddar addiction,
Heywood Gourmet Grilled Cheese Shoppe, open this week,
Is just what ooey, gooey sandwich lovers seek.
So saith John Heywood of cheese and of men,
Each hath ten different tastes — so where to begin?
Raisin-specked bread with double-cream Brie,
Plus, fig jam and apple balance perfectly.
Fontina with caramelized onion confit,
Shallot butter on sourdough — a new favorite?
Soup of the day, a salad or two,
So delicious are they, you must remember to chew.
On Twitter use #Heywood to make a suggestion,
And if your combination is chosen the best one,
You’ll see it pop up on the menu.
(Swing by late-night after a couple of brews.)
Now since sliced bread, what is the greatest thing you have seen,
If not placing some cheese in between?
Heywood Gourmet Grilled Cheese Shoppe, 3337½ West Sunset Boulevard, at Descanso Drive, Silver Lake (heywoodgrilledcheese.com).
