You usually take the express. But when it comes to grub, you hop on the local.
Local 1205, to be precise.
One part gourmet emporium, one part raw vegan mecca, the new Abbot Kinney market/cafe has all you need to fuel up: locally sourced, cold-pressed juices and smoothies; farmers market produce and flowers; and plenty of L.A.’s greatest hits (Mylkman almond milk, Red Rooster Bakery pastries).
Owner Craig Weiss also stocks his fave finds from around the globe, such as Bellota pork from Spain, Pana Carasau from Sardinia, and Katz’s and 2nd Avenue Deli meats from New York.
Need a rest stop? Park it at the indoor/outdoor cafe, where salads (Dungeness Crab Louie), open-face sandwiches (soppressata with hot cherry peppers), and all-day breakfast dishes (raw açai bowl) are off the rails.
Spotted coming down the tracks: a cheese cave, raw bar, and Brazilian pizza oven.
Local 1205, 1205 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, at San Juan Avenue, Venice (310-396-6663 or local1205.com).
