Behind many a great empire is a pair of BFFs (see: Hewlett and Packard, Ben and Jerry, Oprah and Gail).
Next up? Dakota Solt and Lisa Ziven. The RISD grads and pals put their heads together and dreamed up one rad idea: Crybaby Presents, a curated, traveling concept shop selling hip, ahead-of-the-curve finds.
Each season, the boutique will pop up in an empty storefront with a loosely themed exhibition that weaves together art, design, and fashion. Holy Smoke, the inaugural installation, opening Saturday (through December 20), toys with notions of the prosaic and profound.
On the walls you’ll find original works and signed limited-edition prints by artists Leo Fitzpatrick, Adam Marnie, Glen Baldridge, and Kevin Zucker. There are also racks of far-out clothes by indie labels such as Samantha Pleet, Katie Gallagher, and Alexandra Cassaniti, as well as furniture courtesy of The Haas Brothers and Sean Fabi & Maxim Jezek.
Solt and Ziven will also peddle their own creations. Because occasionally there can be an “I” in “team.”
Crybaby Presents, 171 South La Brea Avenue, between West First and West Second Streets, Larchmont (323-936-0334 or crybabypresents.com).
