We know you love secrets, and we’ve got a real good one.
Purl, the latest covert cocktail spot, is now open in Marylebone.
Inspired by Dickensian gin houses and Prohibition-era speakeasies, the discreet venue is tucked away in the basement of a daytime cafe. The clandestine appeal extends to the atmosphere: dim lighting (chandeliers, fireplaces), cozy alcoves, exposed brick walls and jazz music. If your mobile doesn’t get reception, you can use the retro phone booth — or simply enjoy being off the grid.
The cocktails alone merit a visit. Artisanal highlights include elaborate ice (hand-shaved behind the bar or lavender-infused cubes), pomegranate foam and tiny balls of mango caviar to float in champagne.
Purl opens daily at 5 p.m. — sure to draw an after-work crowd. Try not to tell everyone.
