An Interview with Our Street Style Idol

An Interview with Our Street Style Idol

Lina Plioplyte shows us her three favorite outfits

Most people reserve head-to-toe leopard print (socks included) for Halloween.

Lina Plioplyte is an exception.

When the Lithuania-born filmmaker dresses in full-body spots, she gets photographed by The Sartorialist.

In today’s video, we head to the street style superstar’s Brooklyn neighborhood to get the lowdown on her three favorite outfits — and attempt to uncover how she makes her Clarissa Explains It All-meets-Iris Apfel look work.

We’ve watched Plioplyte turn heads while behind the camera at multiple DailyCandy videos in the past, so when a group of high school boys asked for her digits during this shoot, we were hardly fazed.

She’s the cat’s meow.

To see Plioplyte’s work, go to teenagepeanut.com. Want more street style? Cast your vote in our contest to find the most stylish city in the country.

SuChin Pak's 5 Questions: Face Hunter's Yvan Rodic

The street style photographer tells all

Travel the world. Photograph well-heeled, beautiful people. Chronicle adventures. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.

That someone is Yvan Rodic, the brains behind go-to street style blog Face Hunter. In this 5 Questions with SuChin Pak video, we go behind the lens, learning everything from how Rodic chooses his subjects to his opinion on the most stylish city in the world (you’ll be surprised).

Rodic also fills us in on his latest book, Travels with Face Hunter, a picture diary of a year in his fabulous, jet-setting life.

He really took one for the team.

Travels with Face Hunter is available at amazon.com, $17. To read his blog, go to facehunter.blogspot.com. Want to keep watching? Check out our interviews with actress Anna Chlumsky, nutritionist Kimberly Snyder, singer/songwriter Emeli Sandé, and supermodel Coco Rocha.

Our chief correspondent's obsessions right now

Don’t dread swimsuit season. Embrace it with two new suits and a cover-up (that also works as a dress), picked by our woman about town.

What’s the new little black dress? The little black bag that goes with everything. In this video, SuChin shares three that you’ll want to buy right now.

This week’s picks are available at cloudcloudny.com, gargyle.com, and nastygal.com. (The Nasty Gal bag is restocking in July; sadly, it was so popular it sold out right before this video went up.) For more of SuChin’s obsessions, check out her favorite videos on our YouTube channel.

Inside Story: Lele Sadoughi

Inside Story: Lele Sadoughi

The jewelry designer shows us her place

Fact: Some people have more hours in their days than the rest of us.

Designer Lele Sadoughi sits among these unicorns: She started J.Crew’s jewelry division, heads it up at Tory Burch, and launched her own collection for Spring 2013. And she had a baby a month ago.

In today’s Inside Story, we took of a tour of Sadoughi’s Greenwich Village pad, from the thousands of pieces of costume jewelry to table settings fit for a queen. The coolest part? Almost everything is from flea markets and eBay (she even divulged her search terms).

While we were there, Sadoughi gave us a peek at her fall collection, and it’s just as vibrant and colorful as the rooms she inhabits.

If, that is, she’s a real person.

To shop Sadoughi’s collection, go to lelesadoughi.com. To watch more home porn, check out Heidi Merrick’s hideaway in the hills, Rebecca Minkoff’s colorful loft, and Lela Rose’s Manhattan mansion

SuChin Pak gets the inside scoop on her Designer Collaboration

We like it when people are literal — as in “She literally took the cake.” That’s why we love the earrings that California-based Melissa Joy Manning made for our Designer Collaborations: She took our very own swirl and turned it into jewelry. In this video, DailyCandy correspondent SuChin Pak talks with Manning about her process.

Denim isn't just blue anymore

When it comes to jeans, it’s not just about the blues anymore. During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, we saw denim in vibrant colors — orange, red, yellow, you name it — both inside and outside Lincoln Center. In today’s StyleCandy Runway Takeaway, we explore the trend’s staying power.

To see more footage from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, go to stylecandy.com.

The Sun Is Shining at Rachel Roy

The color-blocking trend continues

Today’s StyleCandy Runway Takeaway is so bright, you need to wear shades. The color-blocking trend continues to reign supreme, and Rachel Roy takes it up a notch by using prints. Watch the video for her tips and inspiration.

Chris Benz Brought Us Flowers

Chris Benz Brought Us Flowers

Florals are the new neutral at the designer's presentation

“Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is so calm and relaxing.”
— No one, ever

But despite the lack of sleep, we get a rush when the models start down the runway.

That’s why we teamed up with the Style Network to bring you StyleCandy’s Runway Takeaway videos. Each day, we showcase outstanding styles that we think will evolve into full-blown trends, from one of our favorite designers.

We spotted symmetrical prints at Lela Rose, menswear inspiration at Kaelen, and ’70s florals at Chris Benz (above, and yes, that is Susan Sarandon and her dogs). Plus, each designer gave us styling tips, from shoes you shouldn’t wear with flared pants (Rebecca Minkoff) to advice for wearing statement pieces (Erin Fetherston).

We hope you’ll be inspired to channel these looks now. Spring 2013 feels too long to wait.

You can quote us on that.

DIY Micro Floral Print with Mr. Kate

DIY Micro Floral Print with Mr. Kate

The L.A.-based crafter shows us her easy method

You’ve put one too many birds on it (thanks, Portlandia). What’s next?

Flowers, as inspired by the micro florals on the fall 2012 runways at Suno, Paul & Joe, and Band of Outsiders, to name a few. In today’s Easy Does It video, we asked L.A.-based DIY expert Kate Albrecht (a.k.a. the beautiful Mr. Kate) to show us how.

All you’ll need is fabric paint (in four or five fall-ish colors), a fabric pen, tinfoil, and a surface in need of sprucing up. We did shirts in the video, but feel free to use totes, pillowcases, etc.

We’d never want you to feel pigeonholed.

For more DIY ideas or info on Mr. Kate, go to mrkate.com.

It's Time to Reflect at Lela Rose

It's Time to Reflect at Lela Rose

Mirror-image prints are StyleCandy's latest Runway Takeaway

Today we’re starting with the man print in the mirror. The reason? Lela Rose’s spring 2013 show featured at least five pieces with symmetrical designs. Not sure what we mean? Watch the video, in which Rose explains the concept and why you should love it.

A Flair for Flare at Rebecca Minkoff

A Flair for Flare at Rebecca Minkoff

The designer brings back the wide leg

Will skinny jeans finally go the way of mom jeans? Who knows, but Rebecca Minkoff’s spring 2013 collection showcased a flared leg enough to make us hope so. In this video, the designer gives tips for wearing the trend and shares how New York City influences her designs.

Poised and Pretty at Honor

Poised and Pretty at Honor

Feminine skirts light up the runway

Generally speaking, miniskirts look good only on people with minihips. That’s why we were thrilled to see full skirts going up and down the runway at Honor. In this video, we interview designer Giovanna Randall about her feminine, flouncy looks.

All Buttoned Up at Kaelen

All Buttoned Up at Kaelen

Menswear inspires the designer's latest collection

It’s all in the details. Especially if you’re talking about designer Kaelen Haworth’s most recent presentation, where she amplified simple shapes with shoulder pads and structural collars (buttoned all the way to the top, of course). In this video, she talks about the trends and provides tips for wearing them.

Ombre Doesn't Fade at Erin Fetherston

Ombre Doesn't Fade at Erin Fetherston

The designer showcases her knack for color

Change is good. Especially when we’re talking about the ombre fabrics at Erin by Erin Fetherston. A luminous orange transforms into a light pink, and a pale yellow turns into sunshine. In this video, Fetherston explains her inspiration and gives styling tips for wearing ombre.

StyleCandy's first favorite look

When two greats join forces, we can’t get enough. Brunch, Brangelina, and chugs (Chihuahua-pug hybrids, obviously) are living proof.

Which is why we’ve teamed up with the Style Network to form our own aptly named entity: StyleCandy. Each month, we’re combining DailyCandy’s knack for finding the latest and greatest with Style’s passion for all things stylish to bring you original video content.

First up is Runway Takeaway, in which we head to New York Fashion Week and highlight one standout look per day — one we feel will inspire a trend — from our favorite designers. Included in the lineup: Whit (above), Kaelen, Erin Fetherston, Rebecca Minkoff, Chris Benz, Lela Rose, and others.

We can’t wait to get this relationship off the ground and into your computers.
