When we arrived backstage, Tom Scott was amazingly calm. “Everything’s good,” he said, “Except we have to still book one model.” While Scott fit each look on a model, the Shiseido hair-and-makeup team was hard at work making his beauty inspiration — the healthy glow you get after playing sports — a reality.
Makeup artists created tongue-in-cheek “bad” tans by creating fake sunglasses tan lines around Speed Racer-style goggles. Hot pink and coral lips punctuated an otherwise dewy (to mimic perspiration) face.
See, models do eat! Scott held his presentation in a West Village high school, so backstage was actually the basement cafeteria. Breakfast was served with all of the models busing their own trays.
Scott remained calm throughout the preparations. Here, he consulted his board with the models and looks in order to arrange them by “squads” in the school’s gymnasium. Preshow, a bunch of models got into the mood by bouncing basketballs, shooting hoops, and stretching.
Fully dressed and coiffed, the models posed for a class picture before the show.
Canvas PF Flyers completed all the looks.
A hunky mood board inspired some of Scott’s unisex looks.
Yes, knit briefs are a little risque. But we happen to think the slouchy sweater (knitted from ripped-up T-shirts) is genius.
Our favorite unisex look? This boy’s knit bike shorts (with knee pocket!), basketball hoop-inspired mesh tank, and canvas belt bag with neon pink stitching.
We loved this model’s bleached, messy bob and sparkly, tinselly sweater. (Note the healthy flush and fake goggle tan.)
Comfy and stylish? Scott managed to balance the two for spring. We were smitten with the mint green, coral, and athletic gray color palette that was tinged with flashes of silver.
