The last time someone told you to shut your piehole, you listened.
Now that Simplethings Sandwich & Pie Shop is opening Monday on West Third Street, you may want to reconsider.
The shop ushers midcentury Americana into contemporary West Hollywood with 1950s-style black and white tiling, butcher-block countertops, and vintage Coca-Cola bins combined with of-the-moment stainless-steel appointments.
On the sandwich front, roasted meats are topped with homemade condiments (we like the Thanksgiving turkey with jalapeno stuffing). Meanwhile, executive chef Carrie Cusack of farmers market fave Frankie & Tiny’s Pies bakes everything from classic individual sweet pies to savory pot pies (chicken, steak and lager).
Flavors rotate, although Cusack accepts requests, such as vegan versions and a re-creation of Grandma’s secret recipe.
Now that’s what we call a life of pie.
