Carry Potter

Like any It-designer worth his salt, Jonathan Adler has a manifesto. Here’s a sampling:

We believe in dorky enthusiasm.
We believe in always being underdressed or overdressed.
We believe celebrities should pay full price.
We believe dogs should be allowed in stores and restaurants.

Here, here. With a code of conduct like that, who better to trust with creating a line of handbags?

Adler’s new collection is everything his home textiles and accessories are: a touch of Hollywood Regency, a touch of ’70s groovy, and a whole lot of Adler-esque adventurous. The purses have classic silhouettes — but with unexpected details. One has chocolate-brown and baby-blue needlepoint. The calf and suede styles feature resin hardware. All are made in Italy, and, along with the requisite inside pockets designated to cell phone and keys, there’s a snug little spot just for your credit card.

Which you’ll definitely need if you follow the last of Adler’s credos:

We believe in blowing your nest egg on our pots.
