What is art?
Just kidding. Rather than quibble all day over such unanswerable questions, why not just find stuff you like and look at it?
Like Amy Ruppel’s paintings. The Wisconsin-born artist makes stunning pictures from acrylic, wax, and oil. Bright stripes and the occasional human form mingle with dark birds, scrawny trees, pale landscapes, and big skies full of all sorts of weather. The result: images that recall everyone from Paul Klee to Edward Hopper yet depict a world you’ve never quite imagined before.
In other words, art.
