We heard singer Frances Cone perform recently and were instantly smitten by her folksy, indie-pop sound. (It’s no wonder; she’s been singing and playing the piano since she was 3 years old.)
While her debut album isn’t out for a few more months, we’ve fallen hard for new single “Rattles Your Heart,” premiering here. But first, find out what’s on her personal playlist, how she orders at the bar, and more.
What’s your favorite candy? I’m all over spicy dark chocolate with chilies and cherries right now.
Whom are you listening to right now? Right this second, St. Lucia and a dog named Otis. In life rotation: Shovels and Rope, Easy Tells, Frank Ocean, Kenneth Aaron Harris, Tom Waits, Patty Griffin, and Rufus Wainwright.
What’s your preshow ritual? Bananas. Multiple bananas. It’s almost embarrassing.
Where are you from? Charleston, South Carolina — still my favorite place.
Describe your personal style in two words. Help me.
What’s your drink? Habanero tequila.
What rattles your heart? People and sounds and the sounds people make.
What can we expect from your debut album? I’ve always wanted to write songs that people can easily make their own, songs that become everyone’s story. I guess that’s the point of it all. So hopefully this album is a landscape you can plant yourself in to.
We have an inkling it’ll do just that.
Listen to “Rattles Your Heart” now.
