Not so at Katy Trail Ice House.
After a weeklong soft opening, the Austin-inspired beer garden adjacent to the railroad-right-of-way-turned-running-path officially debuted yesterday.
A hotspot right out of the gate, it keeps its American/Tex-Mex menu simple with chili, quesadillas, chicken sandwiches, and salads. The burgers (jalapeno jack, mushroom Swiss avocado) are the natural best sellers — as is the beer. Choose from 50 drafts, including Texas crafts (Jester King, Franconia, Shiner), major domestics, Mexican imports, and Guinness.
Just like the menu, the atmosphere is casual: a big metal shed, crushed-granite patio under the trees, and picnic tables (the place seats up to 500). But with its Uptown address (and athletic eye candy from the gym next door), plan to see a crowd wearing everything from Adidas to Alaïa.
And the pet-friendly policy means you won’t have to leave Al at home.
