Bring out your natural side with jewelry from Mineralogy, an eye-catching line from School of the Art Institute grad Theresa Cowan.

After an inspirational earth science lecture, Cowan went on a quest for natural, uncut materials that could double as wearable art. Her collection of undrilled, unpolished artifacts includes 2-million-year-old horse teeth (nearly petrified from age), rough pyrite (a.k.a. fool’s gold), quartz, and bison bone.

In her Irving Park apartment (with two chatty parakeets), Cowan crafts one-of-a-kind designs: A 10,000-year-old bison tooth is wrapped in wire, accented with chunks of Peruvian pyrite, and draped from a gold-finished chain; gold wire-wrapped labradorite hangs from a double strand; simple pyrite earrings pop when they catch the light.

They’re real — and they’re fabulous.
