You’ve got a cut-flowers habit. Nip it in the bud with a special-order recycled terrarium by local artist Design Project.
Sold exclusively at Sprout Home, the mini ecosystems are made from repurposed utility meter boxes (the artist’s attempt to juxtapose energy use and the earth’s fragility). Each comes with soil, two succulents, and an easy-to-follow instruction manual.
Then it’s up to you to conjure your divine powers and customize the self-respirating world. Sprout sells action figures (horses, soldiers, astronauts), glittery black sand, gravel, and mood moss (dried, preserved, and resembling tiny green hairs) to help create your own Eden. Staffers will dole out decorating tips as needed. Any signs of a god complex, and you’re on your own.
Available at Sprout Home, 745 North Damen Avenue, between Chicago Avenue and Superior Street (312-226-5950 or sprouthome.com).
