The last time you were in a cheese cave was never.
That changes tonight: Bar Pastoral opens in Lakeview.
The city’s go-to for expertly sourced cheese, wine, and picnic fare expands its operation with a sit-down restaurant reminiscent of Europe: curved ceilings, lights fashioned from butter churns.
Chef Chrissy Camba (Vincent) designs comforting dishes meant to be shared. Nibble on poached apricots stuffed with house merguez and tart labne; plunge rye soldiers into Castelinhos fondue; spread Quince & Apple marmalade on English muffins.
Throw in an order of house-cured charcuterie (see: duck rillette) and roasted cauliflower with Emmentaler mornay for good measure.
It’s all too easy to imbibe from the impeccable list of full and half pours from small producers. Special-edition cuvee (a collaboration with Michigan’s L. Mawby Vineyards), beer, and cocktails are also available.
Don’t drink too much.
Or you’ll get spelunk.
