The team at Pubbelly and the former chef of Scarpetta are expecting.
A rendezvous between the two — fueled by too much wine and rich food, no doubt — is bringing new life to Miami Beach’s restaurant scene. Its off-the-beaten path baby name: Macchialina.
Proud parents Jose Mendin, Sergio Navarro, Andreas Schreiner, and chef Mike Pirolo watched their little one take its first steps during tasting previews of braised short rib lasagna and veal cheek and pork meatballs before tonight’s official opening.
Located in Sylvano’s old crib on 8th and Alton, Macchialina is outfitted in dark wood and red accents. Graduate from 60-plus Italian bottles to fried olives stuffed with sausage and robiola and locally made burrata with pickled eggplant. (Teething on the bone-in rib-eye is natural.)
Butterscotch panna cotta, tiramisu bread pudding, and seasonal strudel already have us saying, “Oh, baby.”
Macchialina, 820 Alton Road, Miami Beach (305-534-2124 or macchialina.com).
