There was once a time when eating a burrito on a street curb at 4 a.m. was considered par for the course.
These days locally sourced Mexican served on mismatched china sounds more palatable.
Tip your sombrero to Antique Taco, Ashley and Rick Ortiz’s new restaurant opening today in Wicker Park. The authentic, casual space (think old road signs, a robin’s-egg blue bar, and worn wood tables — some of the vintage wares are for sale) makes you feel at home.
Corn tortillas (made in-house from a family recipe) are filled with fish, smoked cabbage, and Sriracha tartar sauce; carnitas with tamarind glaze; and more. Don’t miss the corn-off-the-cob salad, habanero popcorn, chili-cheese curds, and ridiculous cilantro-mint chip ice cream.
Drinks (rosemary margarita, vodka agua fresca) are served in glass jars.
Don’t even think about crushing them on your head.
