All this talk about bikini season made us hungry.
So naturally, we searched for calorie-laden snacks in an area we wouldn’t be recognized.
We struck gold at Sweet Sensations Pastry, a quiet Ravenswood bakery that’s screaming for attention. Baker Sharin Nathan honed her pastry chops at Charlie Trotter’s and Everest, but her simple, old-fashioned favorites stole our heart.
Nathan spent twenty years perfecting her knock-your-socks-off chocolate chunk cookie recipe, and it shows: Chopped bittersweet and gooey milk Callebaut chocolates balance the crisped exterior. Peanut butter milk chocolate cookies, chocolate coffee cookies, and European-style scones are equally addictive.
There’s only one problem: Due to a lack of foot traffic, Nathan bakes only a half dozen at a time — but give her 24 hours’ notice, and she’ll gladly whip you up a heftier batch.
