Mr. Rogers changes into his casual cardigan and laces up his playtime sneakers. He smiles beatifically and addresses the camera:
Hello, boys and girls. I’m so glad you’ve joined me in the land of Make Believe today. I’d like to introduce you to my new buddy The Friendly Toast.
This happy diner is brand new to Cambridge, but its big sister spot (with the same name) has been in far-away Portsmouth, New Hampshire, for thirteen whole years. It’s sure to have lots of friends (there’s room for 150) with a menu that includes Almond Joy pancakes, a chorizo burrito with Cuban beans and spicy mashed potatoes, and classic New England frappes. (Rubs his tummy.)
And just like all of you, The Friendly Toast is extra special: bright green walls, dinettes from the ’50s, antique metal signs, mannequin heads, and wild art.
It’s a beautiful day for a new neighbor.
The Friendly Toast, 1 Kendall Square, bldg. 300, Cambridge (617-621-1200).
