Sparklers, check. Stars and stripes chip ’n’ dip, check. Next on the shopping list: booze. Orla Murphy-LaScola, co-owner and sommelier at American Seasons on Nantucket, has compiled a made-in-the-USA wine menu to complement our favorite patriotic provisions.
Kick off Independence Day with a Robert Sinskey pinot gris from Napa: “Light, dry rosé, great with nibbles or on its own.”
“We love dry rieslings,” Murphy-LaScola says. “And the Chateau Montelena riesling pairs perfectly with creamy potato salad.”
Burgers and Dogs
The “great body and bold flavor” of Clos Pegase Mitsuko’s Vineyard chardonnay goes well with red meat and encased delicacies.
“I love American sauvignon blanc for lobster,” Murphy-LaScola says. Her rec: Cade from Napa.
Corn on the Cob
Bubbly time. “This is a fun item to pair with an ice-cold sparkling wine, like Schramsberg brut rosé.”
For the pie de resistance, she suggests Bonny Doon Vinferno from Santa Cruz. “It has hints of baked apple, so it’s a match made in heaven.”
