’Tis time for boos and booze. Bring out the dead with witchy brews from local haunts that are anything but toil and trouble.
Potion: Pumpkin Punch
Brewer: CinéBistro (available through November 4).
Victims: Eight unpretentious scarecrows who prefer gourds to glasses.
Formula: Hollow out eight small pumpkins or one large pumpkin. Combine 8 oz. Myers’s dark rum, 8 oz. Bacardi light rum, 4 oz. sour mix, and 16 oz. pineapple juice over ice in a container. Empty mixture into pumpkin(s), top with 1½ tsp. grenadine per serving (2 oz. total), replace pumpkin lid(s), and serve.
Potion: Vampire Kiss Martini
Brewer: STK (hosting Stake at STK, a free, vampire-themed bash, on Saturday, October 27, 8 p.m.).
Victims: Your True Blood-obsessed cronies and the guy you want to bump fangs with.
Formula: Rim a martini glass with red sugar (use food coloring). Pour 1½ oz. chilled vodka (Grey Goose is preferred) and ½ oz. Chambord black raspberry liqueur into the glass. Top with 1½ oz. of champagne, and lightly pour another ½ oz. Chambord for a layered effect.
Potion: The Lightning Bolt
Brewers: Available at North Highland Pub, Charlie G’s, and The Bucket Shop Cafe.
Victims: Pals who need a jolt.
Formula: Mix two parts Whynatte latte, two parts RumChata, and one part Myers’s dark rum. Serve over ice or as a shot.
Potion: Headless Horseman
Brewers: Stuart White and Vincent Landi at Miller Union (available through November 4).
Victims: Legendary party people.
Formula: Build 2 oz. Laird’s AppleJack, 1 oz. pumpkin ginger puree, ¾ oz. fresh lemon juice, ¾ oz. ginger liqueur, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters in a tall glass with ice. Top with a splash of ginger ale. Garnish with a few toasted, salted pumpkin seeds.
